These sites do this in the name of free speech, which really means it give the average person the ability to do a lot of damage without have any basis for it.
For example, if you are upset by a company or someone because of something, and you want to be vindictive, you can very well go one one of these sites and say anything you like, totally fabricate anything you want, very much like you can do on your own personal blog, and there will be nothing that the party having the scam or fraud report done on them. The best you can hope for is to make a rebuttal, but the damage has been done.
Most people that come across this information will not take the time to read your rebuttal they will just pass you by looking at one of your competitors.
Best off all, if someone does this to you, you can spend thousands of dollars trying to repair the damage that was done and the person that wrote it gets to site back and laugh at you. Isn't free speech great? It is bad enough that there are people out there like this but to give them a blow horn so they can create more noise just feeds them.
So what can we do about this?
To be honest, I do not have the answer to this problem. Do you?
